GIS Mapping Nearly Complete - Final Report in July, 2008
Posted Jun 24, 2008 by Bryant Startin
At the next board meeting of the Shoshone Irrigation District to be held on July 16th 2008, Sage Civil Engineering will present their final report of the WWDC level II study they have been working on for the last year. This will include the completion of the GIS mapping of the Districts infrastructure as well as a report on the rehabilitation of the intake portion of the Corbett Dam, resurfacing one mile of the Corbett tunnel floor, and the Buck Springs Undershot. Below is the original post with more information on this subject.
In the Fall of 2005 the Shoshone Irrigation(District) applied to the Wyoming Water Development Commission for a level II study to do GIS mapping of the infrastructure of the District. This mapping was to include the Shoshone Irrigation system including the delivery system, underground and open drains, water rights and the Bureau of Reclamation Land Classification Maps for inclusion in a GIS.
Included in this study is a structure inventory and evaluation of the entire system to evaluate the condition of all structure on the system with special attention given to the Corbett Dam intake, the floor of the Corbett Tunnel and the Buck Springs Undershot. Conceptual Designs and cost estimates will be prepared for portions of the system found to require major repairs.
In the spring of 2006, the Wyoming State Legislature approved up to $300,000 for the completion of this level II study. Through interviews with engineering firms and the bidding process with the Wyoming Water Development Commission, Sage Civil Engineering of Cody was awarded the contract to complete this project.
Sage has been working since the middle of the summer of 2006 gathering data for this study and mapping. It has been a large undertaking for the District and Sage and we will keep you updated on their progress as we get updated information. Hopefully the end result will provide the District and it's landowners with an up to date, living, workable map of the project.
The schedule for completion of this project is March of 2008. I will try to make available the results of this project as we recieve them.
